I am a fourth-year sociology and education student at Grinnell College. As a critical sociologist, I study how social institutions —namely, educational, medical, and penal institutions —shape experiences of embodiment and cultural understandings of mental health. My current research uses qualitative methods to examine how secondary-level U.S. health curricula reproduce the thin/fat dualism and how educators negotiate it in practice.
Specialized Interests: Education; medicine; body size; the body/embodiment; culture; medicalization; eating disorders; obesity; carceral logic
